Today is so big I have to split it into 2 blogs. In the morning we went to the wet market to view the abundance of fresh produce.
We are with May, the chef from Lee Kum Kee, who has invited us to her home tonight to experience a true tradtitional Chines New Year reunion dinner. She is shopping for produce for the dinner.
From there we take a walking tour, sampling lovely things as we go. Of particular interest is the Chinese herbal pharmacy, where things like black fungus, pulses, herbs and random stuff like deer antlers are doled out to a prescription.
We end up having lunch in a typical Hong Kong diner. Some of the food has to be seen to be believed, like garlic rolls doused in condensed milk, or a strange combination of tea, coffee and condensed milk. I have wonton soup with hot chilli, and also try the lovely braised beef brisket. We head back to the hotel to get ready for tonight’s special dinner at May’s house.
